This past year, Desert Willow was one of two schools in the Antelope Valley to be selected for the High Priority Schools Grant Program.  In short, this grant provides the financial resources that enabled us to bring the best and most effective research tested programs to our Desert Willow students much earlier than planned. Specifically, we are implementing the AVID program, Step Up to Writing and UCLA Math.  The AVID program is designed to encourage, motivate and prepare middle level students to attend college.  All students will benefit from this program as we implement Cornell Notes, Socratic Seminar and planner organizational strategies as part of the school-wide AVID program.  With Step up to Writing, all seventh and eighth graders will be able to improve their writing through proven strategies.   UCLA Math is the program teachers will use in math support class to focus on the area of weakness and help bring students up to grade level.

               We have a dedicated and hardworking staff at Desert Willow.  We are excited to bring these new programs to Desert Willow. As a school Community, we pride ourselves in creating an environment that is student-centered, nurturing, organized and challenging.
