Rules and Procedures

STUDENT CONDUCT CODE

Summerwind Elementary School will have classroom environments that are appropriately quiet, orderly and conducive to learning. Each student will have the opportunity to learn without interference from others. Students are expected to exhibit acceptable citizen and to be responsible for their actions.

  1. General Rules
    1. Students are expected to respond immediately and respectfully to directions given by any authorized staff member.
    2. Vandalism, fighting, hurting and threatening others will not be tolerated. Nor will profane language and discourteous, and/or rude behavior. Restriction and suspension of offenders may result.
    3. After recess, students are to proceed immediately to their line-up area. The restroom facilities and drinking fountains are to be used before the whistle is blown.
    4. Students are to walk on campus at all times. Straight, quiet lines are required for group activities.
    5. Students are to enter the classrooms quietly and carry out the teacher’s directions.
    6. Students are to raise their hands and be recognized before speaking, unless otherwise directed.
    7. When participating in group activities, students are to speak with appropriate volume and tone of voice.
    8. Students must have permission to leave the room. Only adults listed on the student’s emergency card may check a child out of school during the day. All students must be checked out through the office.
    9. Personal grooming is to be done in the restroom only.
    10. Students are to be responsible when using school materials, to prevent waste or damage.
    11. Students are expected to keep their hands and feet to themselves at all times.
    12. Unless authorized by the teacher, students are not permitted to bring personal items to school, including, but not limited to the following: money, gum, pogs, Pokemon cards, BB’s, matches, fireworks, sling shot, any weapon or weapon look-alike, candy, soda, skateboards, roller blades, tape players, radios, toys, and other personal items.
    13. Students wishing to confer with Terry Hemmis in her office must first obtain the secretary’s permission.
    14. Students must have a health/office pass to come to the office.
    15. Use of the restroom, other than during recess, must be authorized. The student must have a bathroom pass
  2. Classroom Rules
    In order to show respect and responsibility, we expect you to:
    1. Listen while others are talking.
    2. Stay on task.
    3. Use indoor voices.
    4. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
    5. Keep working area neat and clean.
    6. Treat materials with care.
    7. Come to class prepared with appropriate materials (homework, books, and supplies….)
  3. Classroom Consequences
    1. 1st offense – Name on board (warning). Parent contact optional
    2. 2nd offense – One check; recess detention/placement in another classroom of teacher’s choice. Parent contact.
    3. 3rd offense – Two checks; notify parent and Principal.
    4. 4th offense – Three checks; office referral. Possible suspension.
    5. In extreme cases where there is no effort to improve behavior, student may be asked to leave Summerwind School.
    6. Pupils involved in hurting another pupil or in blatant disrespect, as well as pupils involved in extreme or bizarre behavior, may be suspended. Such judgment will be made by the principal or her designee.
  4. Playground Rules
    1. Respond immediately and with respect to directions given by staff members.
    2. Refrain from discourteous behavior or profane language.
    3. Proceed immediately to line-up area at the appropriate whistle.
    4. Fighting, hurting, or threatening others will not be tolerated.
    5. Equipment will be shared and used properly.
    6. Play in designated areas only.
  5. Sixth Grade Culmination Requirements
    1. All students participating in the Sixth Grade Culmination Ceremony must have a letter grade average of C or better, with No F’s in any subject during the last trimester.
    2. A modest, school appropriate dress code will be enforced.
