Regular attendance is very important to the success of your child in Head Start. If your child must be absent, a phone call on the day of the absence is needed and a note explaining the absence should be given to the teacher the following day. If a child has excessive absences without prior notification in accordance with the Attendance Policy, he/she may be dropped from the program. The teacher will call to verify absences after two (2) consecutive days. The emergency contacts will be contacted after three (3) consecutive days and no communication with the parents. The teacher will make a home visit after four (4) consecutive days and no communication with the parents. If there is no response, the teacher will leave a letter notifying the parents of the possibility of the child being dropped from the program. If a child must be absent five consecutive days due to illness, a note from the doctor or approval from our nurse is required before he/she is able to return to school. Failure to comply with the above may result in dismissal from the program. Remember to contact your teacher or site FCL if there are questions/ concerns/problems that interfere with your child’s regular school attendance. Only those persons whose names appear on the child’s emergency card and who are at least 18 years of age may sign the attendance sheet. All children must be signed in/out daily. This includes the correct time of arrival/departure and first and last name of the responsible person. Your child will be marked tardy if he/she arrives after 8:00a.m. or 11:45a.m. Children are to be picked up at the end of the day ON TIME. If a child is not picked up by the end of the school day, and we have not been contacted by the parents, the authorities may be contacted.
