To give each parent the opportunity to accompany their child/children on walking or school bus field trips.
PROCESS:
Parent Committee meetings will allow participation in the planning and implementing of program activities through discussions and voting.
Section 1—Determination of Field Trip Location
A field trip determination will be included in the agenda.
Teachers will present the relationship of the field trip to the curriculum.
Parents will meet on a monthly basis to vote on field trips.
Parents will have the opportunity to have input and discuss proposed field trips.
Field trips will be approved with a majority vote of the parents present.
Section II—Parent Participation on Field Trips
All volunteer hours will be posted monthly.
A maximum of five (5) parents per classroom will be given the option to ride the bus. Any related fees will be covered by the Head Start Program.
Parents with the greatest number of volunteer hours the month prior to the trip will be offered the opportunity to participate first. Parents may not attend more than one trip, until every parent who has a minimum of eight hours the month prior to the trip, has been given an opportunity.
If a parent is unable to attend, an alternate process will begin based onvolunteer hours, until all parents have been given the option of participating. In a site where no parents from a classroom can participate, parent volunteers from another Head Start classroom will be given the opportunity to attend the field trip.
Parents must be advised of fieldtrips at least five (5) days in advance of all other preparations they need to consider such as babysitting.
At no time will staff replace parents on a field trip, when a parent is able to participate.
Head Start children may NOT be transported by the parent, they MUST ride on the bus.
If you are not the volunteer for the day and you wish to accompany the class, you must check with the teacher first to see if space is not limited. Parents are responsible for transportation, any entrance fees and lunch.
Children’s food and drinks are to be consumed under teacher supervision. Food or drinks cannot be taken home.
All donated foods and drinks are to be store bought: Already prepared and sealed.
Section III—Approved Annual Field Trips
Field trips for the months of September and October to be determined by teachers with the approval of CDL’s, due to first parent meeting being held in October.
