![]() Superintendent's Message 2012-2013 Welcome to the Palmdale School District and its website. I am proud to call the Antelope Valley home for the past twenty-seven years and to have served in this district for the past twenty-two years. I began my career in education as a substitute teacher and now honored to serve as your Superintendent for a seventh year. I am currently an active member of Kiwanis Palmdale West. I also serve on the Board of Directors for United Way of Los Angeles – Antelope Valley as well as the United Way Greater Los Angeles Corporate Board, on the Board of Directors for the School Employers Association of California, the Antelope Valley Youth Build Charter School and the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce. Palmdale School District serves the community by providing a quality educational experience to over 22,000 students from pre-school through 8th grade. We have 24 schools and over 3,000 employees who all share the goal of launching a lifetime of learning through a focus on quality standards-based instruction. Our highly qualified teaching and support staff work diligently to see that every child receives an equitable education. Our schools and workplaces are a safe and healthy environment for learning. Palmdale School District also believes in providing choices to our parents. Gallizzi Superintendent of Schools Re: Biographical Sketch of Roger Gallizzi California native, Roger Gallizzi is a 23-year veteran educator. Mr. Gallizzi began his career as a substitute teacher and worked as a bilingual teacher in a high poverty school in Palmdale, California. During his administrative career he has served as the Director of Biliteracy Programs, Migrant and Immigrant Education, Principal of the Pueblo Learning Center, Director of Personnel, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and is currently Superintendent of Schools for the Palmdale School District. Mr. Gallizzi received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkely. His Master of Arts is in Educational Leadership from the University of La Verne, where he also completed three years of doctoral work. A noted consultant and staff developer, Mr. Gallizzi has worked for the Los Angeles County Office of Education and numerous school districts in Southern California. He has taught on the faculties of the University of California at Los Angeles Extension; California State University, Northridge; California State University, Bakersfield and Brandman University where he is currently adjunct faculty and the recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award of 2004. Mr. Gallizzi is a Senior Associate of the California School Leadership Academy. He is a member of the California Association of Bilingual Educators, as well as the Association of California School Administrators. He serves as chairman of the board of United Way of Greater Los Angeles, Antelope Valley Regional Board, and is past president of Kiwanis of Palmdale West. Mr. Gallizzi also serves as the Chairman of School Employers Association of California, a joint powers authority representing 150 school districts and 2,000,000 students in the advocacy of management rights. Mr. Gallizzi is also the chair-elect for the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Mr. Gallizzi serves on the Advisory Boards of the Antelope Valley Youth Build Charter School, the South Antelope Valley Education Foundation, Kiwanis of Palmdale West and on the Corporate Board of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles. He is the founder of Los Amigos and Dos Caminos Dual Immersion magnet schools and is the original incorporator of The Palmdale Aerospace Academy. Mr. Gallizzi was recently honored with the Legacy Award from the California Association of Bilingual Education for his promotion of equity and access through multiculturalism and multilingualism. He has also been named Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) for Region 15 and for the State of California for the 2013 - 2014 school year.
