Community Involvement Opportunities
AAPAC stands for African American Parent Advisory Committee. AAPAC supports our African American students and families. Several community meetings are held throughout the school year, including guest speakers who address current topics relevant to African American families and their children. A parent member from the AAPAC serves on the District’s African American Advisory Committee, which focuses on District programs, policies, and practices that affect our students.
Coffee with the Principal events are held at our school sites, offering a forum between our management and parents.
ELAC stands for English Learner Advisory Committee. DELAC comprises representatives elected by their school's English Learner Advisory Committee. It reviews district programs designed to support our English Learner students, reviews District policies and procedures that affect our students, and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees. Only elected representatives may vote, but all meetings are public, and guests are welcome.
SSC stands for School Site Council. The SSC is a decision-making group comprised of the principal, parents, teachers, and other staff members. The committee's goal is to develop and approve the school plan and budget and evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional program. Meetings are open to everyone, although membership is by election, and only members can vote on agenda items. There must be parity in numbers between school members and parent members.
