International Baccalaureate Programme
IB MISSION STATEMENT
At the heart of the International Baccalaureate program is a mission to create a better world through education. All of this is captured in the International Baccalaureate mission statement:
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
THE LEARNING PROFILE
The International Baccalaureate Learner Profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them. Each of the IB's programs is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile. The profile aims to develop learners who are:

MYP Subjects - All students at PLP learn through MYP. The program is focused on encouraging students to become critical and reflective thinkers and is comprised of 8 subject areas: Language and Literature (English), Language Acquisition (Spanish), Individuals and Societies (Social Studies), Sciences, Math, Arts (Visual and Performing), Design, and Physical and Health Education. Teachers still follow their state-mandated or district-approved curriculum. Therefore, the MYP does not change what is learned, just how it is learned. The MYP framework allows teachers to select a global context that serves as a “theme” that permeates one’s teaching of any topic and encourages students to make connections between subjects and link what they learn to the real world and to global issues, reflect, and act on their learning. SERVICE AS ACTIONService is an important tenet of IB, for both PYP and MYP students. The IB service-learning component positively impacts both students and the community and teaches the importance of giving back to our community by solving real-world problems. It teaches students to care not only for themselves but for others of different ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds. IB ACTION CYCLE
The Action Cycle is an important part of a student’s experience in an IB World School. Students are encouraged and expected to reflect on their learning, to think about a choice based on their understanding, and to take action to support their choice.
