Assistant Principal

Hello! My name is Maria Castro, and I am thrilled to join the Cimarron family as your Assistant Principal. Being part of the Palmdale School District since 1990 has been a rewarding journey. I taught various grade levels and passionately focused on Dual Immersion programs within our schools. My experiences as a special projects teacher and assistant principal at different sites fueled my commitment to education.

Originally from Mexico City, I moved to the United States as a teenager and found my home in the Antelope Valley in 1988. I earned my Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Antelope Valley College in 1991, followed by a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master's Degree in School Administration from Chapman University. In 2020, I was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award from CABE (California Association for Bilingual Education).

I am happily married with five children. I believe that education is a powerful pathway that opens doors of opportunity and enhances our students' lives. It is essential to provide all students with equal access to learning while maintaining high expectations for all who walk onto our campuses.

Together, we will equip our students with the tools they need to become critical thinkers, empowering them to thrive and contribute to our global society. By staying updated on the latest educational research, we can implement best practices that inspire our students to discover how they can serve our community.

Here's to a beautiful and productive school year ahead!
